If you’re looking for a great YA read, check out D.L. Garfinkel’s Storky: How I Lost my Nickname and Won the Girl (yes, the whole book is really as good as the title!). I read it last summer, reviewed it for the Gazette, and sent the author a fan letter. I started reading her blog a couple weeks ago and finally got up the nerve to comment on it a couple days ago (with my son and husband’s words ringing in my ears…”If you want people to find your blog, you have to read/comment on other people’s blogs”). I wasn’t sure she’d remember me, but she wrote, “Of course I remember you.” And then she went on to tell me she’d seen my novel (Do You Know the Monkey Man) on the Bank Street Excellent Teen Books list along with hers. Wow! This was the first I’d heard about it(why don’t publishers tell you these things???). I have to say, I’m in very good company!
Hmm…this might not be a bad time to talk to my editor about that sequel…
