It took me until 9:50 last night, but I did actually manage to write 1627 words on T.J.’s Story yesterday. Actually, I wrote a lot more words than that (including 482 words on a picture book), but I deleted them as fast as I wrote them. (Or I deleted them three hours later.) I knew this was going to be an issue for me…I do not play by the rules of NaNoWriMo. But that’s okay. My goal is to get a complete draft of this manuscript done by the end of November. In order to do that, I need to write 1500-1667 words per day. Which should not be a problem! I’m a fulltime writer, so I don’t have any other job I have to go to. Even if I revise as I go, I should be able to spit out that many words in a day. It helps that everyone in my house is doing this, too. And they’re all finishing their word counts way before I am. If I simply refuse to go to bed before I get my words in, I will eventually stop revising and get some words down.

So, I did 1627 words…my husband did 1800-something (and so far, his story is pretty good! He made me read it at 10:30 last night…when I was all bleary-eyed from forcing my own 1627 words out…and then he hung around WATCHING ME read it…he wanted to be a science fiction writer when he was a teenager, but he hasn’t written anything for fun since. So it’s kind of fun to watch him do this.)…College Student did 5200 words (Holy cow! I really have raised an over-achiever! I’m just jealous that it comes so effortlessly for him)…and Junior High Kid did 800 words (his goal is to write 15,000 words. Or was it 25,000 words? I don’t remember now. He’s also in a community theater production this month and will have TWO tech weeks, so whatever he manages to do is great as far as I’m concerned).

We had our little family write-in around the kitchen table after dinner last night. Well, three of us did, anyway. College Student did his write-ins on campus. Where I’m not allowed. (He even organized one of those write-ins…and he said EVERYONE was welcome (so, maybe I should’ve gone? I’m part of “everyone,” am I not?)…he even publicly offered to transport people who may not have transportation. Of course, he offered to transport them in his trunk…that’s my boy!)

And both boys have big plans this evening, so my husband and I plan to have a nice dinner out, just the two of us. Then we’ll come home and WRITE while we wait up for the kids…I can’t think of a nicer way to spend the evening.
