I’ve done nothing the past three days except rewrite the same scene over and over and over. (Okay, that’s a bit of an exaggeration…I’ve practiced my mandolin, ridden my bike, jogged, gone to yoga, gone to Toastmasters, gone out for pizza with friends, gone out for lunch with my husband…but in terms of writing, I’ve done nothing but rewrite that same old scene.)

It’s not even the climax scene…but it’s still a pretty important scene emotionally. It’s a turning point in the story. It’s where my main character starts to really have it out with the people around her…in a sense you could say it leads to the climax, so it’s really important I get the emotion right.

Emotion is so much harder to deal with than action. But it’s coming…

Rewriting…and rewriting…and rewriting!

Even for you??? Your books (well, the one I’ve read anyway) are so character driven. Lots of emotion. And it looks so effortless when YOU do it! 🙂

It’s very hard. There’s a fine line between emotion and angsty. Angsty is ok in small doses, but there needs to be a balance and that’s where I find it difficult.

You’re right…and teenagers can be very angsty, so that makes the line between emotion and angst even finer.
