It wasn’t even a full 24 hours after I turned in Yes, I Know the Monkey Man before I got it back one last time with copyeditor’s queries. So I took that opportunity to go over the manuscript one last time. I won’t see the manuscript again until it’s typeset…and for once I’m actually okay with that. This last time I felt ready to let it go. (Of course, it probably helped that I was getting sick that last day I looked at it…and as soon as I turned it in, I went back to bed…and I almost NEVER take a nap during the day…I have to be REALLY sick to do that.)

I was sick all last week…and a little bit depressed to realize this was probably my older son’s last Thanksgiving with us. At least for a while. If he was moving 2-3 hours away, we’d see him periodically throughout the year…but he’s moving halfway across the country. Realistically, we will probably only see him a couple times a year. And it’s not too likely Thanksgiving will be one of those times.

And my dad’s not doing too well…(though I’ve been saying that for 9 years now)

My dog is doing GREAT, though! She’s going to be on heart medication for the rest of her life, but at her appointment last week, the vet declared her “cured” of the anemia. But she’s still old…and if something else goes wrong with her around the time my oldest moves out, I’m going to be a real basket case.

I need something cheerful to focus on…so we adopted this guy last week:

This is Mouse! He’s a golden retriever/spaniel mix and he’s HUGE! Well, he seems huge to me…I’ve never had a big dog before. He’s 9 months old and he came from an animal shelter. He’s fully housebroken (still likes to chew, though) and extremely well behaved. If you say “leave it,” he does! He’s a good walking partner (though I’m still working on “heel”) and he’ll definitely jog with me. He’s a better jogger than a walker. We’ll be signing up for obedience class very soon…

Thanks! He is beautiful, isn’t he? When the lady from the shelter brought him over, I commented that he’s better looking in person than his picture showed on the website. She said that’s common with black dogs…she also said that in an animal shelter all black dogs are the ones least likely to get adopted. I was really surprised to hear that.
