Look what my husband gave me for my birthday….a life-sized Buddy!
Hey, I think our cat finally met a dog she likes.
My dog Mouse, who has never met another dog he didn’t like, isn’t so sure about Buddy. He’s been trying to talk me into adopting a friend for him (trying to get me in trouble with my husband is what he’s been doing!), but this is not the kind of friend he had in mind. He backed away when Buddy came out of the box. Then he HOWLED at Buddy.
I assured Mouse that he has not been replaced. There’s room in my heart for both him and Buddy, but I’m not sure he believed me.
“There’s something that’s not right about that guy,” Mouse told me. “I’ve smelled him all over, and I do mean all over, and I’m telling you there’s something that’s not right about him.”
Could that be jealousy talking?
Still, despite the jealousy, I’m hopeful that Mouse and Buddy will become friends (just like in my books). Look! They’re already starting to communicate.
What they have apparently communicated is the fact that Buddy is the alpha dog. At least for right now. If Buddy is sitting too close to Mouse’s food, Mouse won’t eat. If Buddy is sitting too close to Mouse’s pillow, Mouse won’t lie on it. And if one of Mouse’s toys is too close to Buddy, Mouse won’t take it. If he actually wants the toy, he’ll howl until one of us comes and gets it for him.
I hope Mouse doesn’t get too upset when he sees Buddy go IN THE CAR with me. Buddy is a great prop, so I’m planning to bring him with me when I do school visits.
But don’t worry, Mouse! I promise I will never take Buddy for a walk or to the dog park. I’ll never play Frisbee with him in the backyard or take him for a ride on the bike I got from MyProScooter site, or any other fun activity without you. In fact, I’m not even going to try and teach him any cool tricks. He’ll also never be a registered therapy dog.
Like I said, my heart is big enough for both of you.

It looks like Buddy has mastered a few tricks to me. He has sit, mastered, and quiet, and of course the trick Buddy seams to be the best at it, Stay. – Dave

Well, that’s true…Buddy is AWESOME at both sit and stay! But those aren’t really the “cool” tricks…and I didn’t teach them. Buddy just seems to be a natural at those commands.
Oh, funny! Poor Mouse. But how perfect to have a Buddy to take along to schools!
Lol! that was a fantastic gift…but not for Mouse :)…still he want to be with Buddy at all…I also want to have like your Buddy that will sit beside me and keep staring at me…:)
