My husband had jury duty today…and he got assigned to a trial! “It’s not fair,” I said when he called me during his lunch break to tell me. “I agree,” he responded. But I meant it’s not fair that he GETS to do this (he meant it’s not fair that he HAS to do this).

I know I’m in the minority here, but I would actually LIKE to go through the process of sitting on a jury. (Hey, I did briefly entertain the possibility of going to law school…about the same time I also considered medical school.) I’ve only been called for jury duty once, though…that was a few years back. And they called about 100 more of us than they needed. So I was sent home at noon not having done anything. And if that wasn’t bad enough, the paperwork I signed on my way out assured me I wouldn’t be called again for another X number of years (I don’t remember how many…too many, as far as I was concerned).

My husband has been called for jury duty I-don’t-remember-how-many-times. He’s been called twice since we’ve lived here…and once everywhere else we’ve ever lived. But this is his first time actually serving on a jury. I can’t wait until he gets home…I wonder how much he’ll be able to tell me?

No fair!
